Artuan de Lierrée is a project by Aurélien Terrade, a classically trained pianist and multi-instrumentalist. An anagram designed to throw listeners off the scent, his instrumental music draws its influences from both the past (the piano music of Debussy and Erik Satie, the cabaret music of Kurt Weill) and the present (Ennio Morricone, Marc Ribot, Tom Waits, Yann Tiersen). Blending imagination and emotion, he creates music that is impressionistic yet contemporary, romantic yet refined – the soundtrack to a film that does not yet exist. In 2006, he recorded his first pieces using his piano, guitars, bass, toy instruments and a four-track recorder, laying the foundations for a childlike, dreamlike and cinematic world to which he alone holds the key.
Mathias Steinauer, composer, was born in Basel in 1959. From 1979 to 1986, he studied piano, music theory and composition at the Basel Academy of Music. Mathias Steinauer took private composition lessons with György Kurtág in Budapest. From 1986 to 2021, he was a lecturer in music theory and composition at the Zurich University of the Arts. His body of work includes compositions for orchestra, ensembles, choir and solo instruments. In 2011, his opera ‘Keyner nit’ premiered in Zurich and Lucerne. His works have been performed in numerous countries across Europe, Asia and the Americas. His body of work is documented on several CD recordings. Since 2018, he has been playing keyboard and stone instruments as part of the trio ‘The Stone Alphabet’.
