Rumori cardiaci, op. 13 (1996)

A little night piece (fi rst performance: Ensemble Oggimusica in Castagnola) Castagnola, a popular suburb of Lugano, lying right by the lake at the foot of the Monte Bré, and peppered with 33 villas, comes suddenly and unexpectedly into the local headlines on account of disturbing rumours: in a public park, near the cemetery, satanic rituals are being carried out on certain nights. The population is highly concerned. Besides fi nding objects of indubitably diabolical import, such as burning candles, halved onions and lemons, the rumour is nourished further by the publication of an old map of Europe: pictured on it is a devil who covers almost the whole continent, with his heart lying nowhere else than in Castagnola.
